"To Spy Out The Land"

Context: Moses, who delivered the Israelites from Egyptian persecution and who imparted the Ten Commandments and other precepts of the Lord to the Chosen People, prepares the Israelites for their journey from Mt. Sinai through the Wilderness of Paran to the Promised Land, Canaan. At the Lord's command, Moses selects a representative of each of the twelve Israelite tribes to spy out the land of Canaan. The spies are named, and the narrative continues:

These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land
. . .
And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
. . .
And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. . . .
