Jake Drake, Know-It-All is about a third grader who wants to put the "know-it-alls" in his class in their places by beating them at their school's science fair.

Jake loves computers as much as he loves science, and winning the prize will also get him a brand new Hyper-Cross-Functional Bluntium Twelve computer system and a year's worth of free internet access. The thought of this double prize—the new computer and victory against his nemeses, Marsha McCall and Kevin Young, makes winning this prize incredibly important to Jake—perhaps a little too important.

At first, Jake wants to do the project all by himself and turns down the help of his friend Willie. He starts working on a great experiment involving magnets, which will form the basis for his project. He throws Kevin and Marsha off track by checking books out of the library which make them think his project relates to animals.

Later, however, he changes his mind, and he and Willie work together. The two have some interesting discussions (and a few arguments) about the scientific concepts at work in their project.

While Jake and Willie do not win the grand prize in the end, Jake learns a lot of valuable lessons about friendship, hard work, and of course, science.
