Ideas for Reports and Papers
1. Investigate whether your state or local community has laws safeguarding the civil rights of homosexual individuals.
2. Conduct research on hate crimes targeting homosexuals. Based on your findings, do you believe Bruce Coville's narrative accurately portrays this issue?
3. If sex education is part of your school's curriculum, does it cover topics on homosexuality and bisexuality? If it does, is the content presented in a positive, negative, or neutral manner? How can you determine this? If these topics are not covered, why do you think they are excluded?
4. Write a story where heterosexuality is as stigmatized as homosexuality is today. How would a boy and a girl in love act in a society that disapproves of heterosexual relationships? Could they hold hands or kiss in public? What kind of TV shows would be broadcast? How would popular music be influenced?
5. Select a story where adults are dissatisfied with their teenager's sexual decisions, and rewrite the story from the adults' point of view.
