We’ll Always Have Summer concludes Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy. The book offers fans of the series a clean resolution to the messy love triangle that permeates the story.

At the end of the second book, Conrad Fisher tells Isabel “Belly” Conklin she would be better off with his brother, Jeremiah. Although difficult for both of them at the time, they accepted his advice. We’ll Always Have Summer picks up two years later, with Belly and Jeremiah happily together in college.

Turmoil starts when Belly overhears a rumor that Jeremiah was unfaithful to her, sleeping with someone else while in Mexico for spring break. Belly confronts Jeremiah and he confirms the rumor but points out that they were technically broken up at the time. Jeremiah apologizes, which does not save Belly from leaving upset.

After speaking with her roommate, Anika Johnson, Belly reflects on a secret she has kept from Jeremiah. She reminisces on a time—while dating Jeremiah—when she visited the Fisher family’s beach house in Cousins Beach, North Carolina, during Christmas break and encountered Conrad. They shared a mostly innocent time, but Belly remembers the clear feelings of lingering love she felt for Conrad.

To apologize for his infidelity and prove his love, Jeremiah proposes to Belly. Although apprehensive, Belly accepts, and they agree to marry at the Cousins house in only two months..

While in Cousins for the opening of a memorial for Susannah Fisher, Jeremiah and Conrad’s late mother, Belly and Jeremiah announce their engagement to their families. Adam Fisher, Jeremiah’s father, thinks they are kidding. Laurel Conklin, Belly’s mother, reacts with anger, saying she will not attend their wedding. Conrad is shocked and uneasy.

With her mother upset, Belly decides to spend the summer in Cousins. On the drive, Jeremiah informs Belly that Conrad will be living there, too.

The narration briefly switches to Conrad’s point of view. After a fight with Jeremiah, Conrad’s inner monologue reveals he believes the wrong Fisher is marrying Belly. In the afternoon Jeremiah departs, leaving Conrad and Belly alone.

As the summer progresses, Belly and Conrad feel less awkward around one another. Belly admires Conrad’s generosity and how he has matured over the years. Through access to his internal monologue, Conrad explains that if he could change anything from his life, he would go back in time and tell Belly he loved her.

During Jeremiah’s next few visits, he frustrates Belly with his indifference toward wedding planning. With Jeremiah around, Conrad leaves the house to visit his dad and Laurel, in hopes of changing their minds and garnering support for the young couple.

With Conrad’s convincing, Laurel attends Belly’s engagement party, giving Belly a sense of comfort she has not felt all summer.

Two days before the wedding, Belly and Jeremiah throw a joint bachelor and bachelorette party. Belly chooses a mellow night with Anika and Taylor, while Jeremiah goes out drinking with friends from his fraternity, Conrad, and Belly’s brother, Steven. Conrad leaves the bar in a fit of rage when he hears about Jeremiah’s infidelity in Cabo.

When Conrad confronts Belly about what he heard at the bar, she tells him she knows what happened in Mexico and assures him they have moved on. This angers Conrad further. Enraged by his brother’s behavior, Conrad accidentally reveals that he still loves her. Belly leaves feeling confused by her love for both brothers.

The next night, Belly informs Jeremiah of what Conrad told her. After an argument, Jeremiah leaves the beach house, telling Belly he needs space to think.

The next day, Conrad finds Jeremiah to try...

and bring him back. Jeremiah agrees to go to the wedding—but only if Conrad does not. Before leaving, Conrad visits Belly to say goodbye one last time. Shortly after, Jeremiah arrives at Belly’s room to ask if she still loves Conrad, to which she resignedly replies yes.

The epilogue picks up five years later. Readers learn that Belly did not marry Jeremiah that day. Instead, she reconnected with Conrad years later. While studying abroad in Spain two years after the proposed wedding, they began to exchange letters, leading to their reunion as a couple.

It is Conrad and Belly’s wedding day. She and Jeremiah share a distant greeting, signifying closure. The story concludes with Conrad and Belly running into the ocean at the Cousin’s house, just like they did when they were kids.
