Chapter 27 Summary

Daenerys tells the slavers that she would like to buy all of the Unsullied, even those that are still in training. They doubt her, but she announces that she will even buy the boys that have not yet killed their puppy—and she will pay full price for them, even double. They doubt that she can pay until Dany offers to give them her ships, their spoils, and one of her dragons. They accept the deal and as a token, they give her the girl that has translated for them. Back at the ships, Dany prepares for the trade. She talks to the girl, who offers her name: Missandei. Dany gives the slave girl her freedom and offers to take her into her service, though she cannot guarantee safety. "Valar Morghulis" replies Missandei. "All men must die," Dany translates. They return to the slavers, who accept all of Dany's possessions and Drogon. In return, they give her a scourge that signals her control over the obedient Unsullied. Dany looks at the Unsullied and declares that she has bought them. The slavers struggle to control Drogon and Dany explains that dragons are not slaves. She commands Drogon to breathe fire, and the dragon burns the slavers. Soldiers enter the square and Dany commands the Unsullied to defend her and to slay the slavers.
