Chapter 19 Summary

The Drowned Man, Aeron Damphair, returns from the sea with the voice of the Drowned God strong inside of him. He calls for the kingsmoot to begin, confident that Victarion will be chosen. After all, no godless man may sit the Seastone Chair. Gylbert Farwynd calls for the ironborn to raise him king. He offers to build ten thousand ships and sail across the Sunset Sea to lands where every man will be a king and every woman a queen. Next comes Eric Anvil-Breaker, a man that might once have been chosen but now is too old. The Drumm comes next and though his words are convincing, he offers the men no gold. Victarion does offer gold and seems about to win the throne when Asha interrupts. She explains that the Old Way of conquest has won them the north but no plunder. She offers the ironborn peace, land, and victory. When the men call out that they will never follow a maid, Asha draws a dirk and calls it her "suckling babe." Men call out for her to be queen until one of Euron's men blows an exotic horn. Euron explains that the ironborn shall raid and conquer all of Westeros, which is clearly dying after its years of war. When Asha suggests that his plan is impossible without dragons, Euron tells the ironborn that he knows where he can get three dragons. He has traveled round the world, and he has horn from Valyria that can control the dragons. As the men shout Euron's name, Aeron Damphair searches for the voice of the Drowned God within, but he cannot hear it.
