Chapter 61 Summary
Tyrion leads the men to defend the King's Gate. They finish Stannis's men and when Tyrion sees fighting in the distance, he commands his men to follow him. The men ride after him shouting "Halfman!" When they arrive, they join Ser Balon Swann and his men. Tyrion realizes that he has battle fever. When Tyrion and Ser Balon have defeated the attackers, they eye Stannis's men crossing the Blackwater by marching over the decks of the jammed ships. Tyrion, Ser Balon, Ser Mandon, Podrick, and what remains of their men ride to fight. Soon, Tyrion finds himself fighting with the two men of the Kingsguard. When he loses his horse, the world turns to madness. He finds himself on a boat, spinning over the position of the armies. It looks wrong, but Tyrion has no time to consider what he is seeing. He looks down and realizes that he is sailing away from shore. At one point, Ser Mandon Moore offers Tyrion his hand. Tyrion leaps for it until he realizes that Ser Mandon is extending his left hand. He is not even sure if he sees Ser Mandon's sword, but it does not kill Tyrion. It does, however, cut his face. Ser Mandon stands over Tyrion, prepared to kill him. However, Ser Mandon suddenly falls to one side. Tyrion's squire, Podrick Payne, has saved him.
