Chapter 26 Summary

Arya used to tell herself that "fear cuts deeper than swords," but now when she says the phrase, she cowers. Arya and Hot Pie have been taken captive by Ser Gregor Clegane, who is searching for Beric Dondarrion. Arya thinks that they are sheep now. Each day, one of the captives is taken and tortured by the Tickler, one of Ser Gregor's men. The answers they give vary, but they die at the end of every day. At night, women are raped. Each evening, Arya says a prayer: a list of the people she wishes were dead. In addition to Ser Gregor and the Tickler, she hates Polliver, who took Needle, and Raff the Sweetling, who killed Lommy. She also hates Dunsen and Chiswyck, two of Ser Gregor's men. Additionally, she hates Ser Amory Lorch, who killed Yoren, Ser Meryn Trant, who killed Syrio Forel, and Ser Ilyn Payne, who killed her father. The Hound, King Joffrey, and Queen Cersei end the list. Ser Gregor takes his surviving captives to the Harrenhal, where they are bathed in scalding water and sorted. Arya, who had traveled as "Arry" in Yoren's company, takes the name "Weasal" now. She is sent to Weese, an understeward in the Wailing Tower. He tells his new servants that the only thing he wants to smell on them is fear of him.
