Chapter 14 Summary

Arya and the others reach a river. It seems like a peaceful day until they find a dead man floating in the reeds. Yoren gathers them together and explains that they cannot cross the river so they will proceed to a holdfast and try to find boats to take across the God's Eye, a lake. However, when they get there, they find that the holdfast has been abandoned. Still, they decide to stay the night. That night, Arya wakes from a wolf dream and rouses the others. Trouble is coming. Moments later, the watchman sounds his horn and troops approach. The commander, Ser Amory Lorch, demands that they reveal themselves in the name of King Joffrey, but Yoren refuses. Arya looks closer and realizes that they do not care whether Yoren is a member of the Night's Watch. They only want to destroy whoever is in the holdfast. After a brief battle, Yoren finds Arya and tells her that they have lost. She gathers the other boys, Hot Pie, Lommy and Gendry, and leads them to a hole near the barn. She also finds an axe and tosses it into the cage holding Jaqen H'ghar, Rorge, and Biter. She hears them breaking out as she leaves the holdfast.
