Winston's relationship with Julia.
At the beginning of part two, chapter four, Winston and Julia arrive at their rented apartment above Mr. Charrington's antique shop for the first time. As they are standing in the apartment, Winston realizes that it is an irrational move to rent the apartment and understands that his decision will eventually lead to their arrest. This scene takes place on pages 172-176 of the online pdf edition.
Another significant moment in the novel takes place on pages 278-283 when Winston and Julia wake up from a long, pleasant nap in the apartment above Mr. Charrington's shop. When Winston says that they are dead, a metal voice from behind the portrait hanging on the wall repeats his comment. The Thought Police then raid Winston and Julia's apartment shortly after they discover that there is a telescreen behind the portrait. Both characters are then arrested and taken to the Ministry of Love.
At the end of part three, chapter five, Winston Smith ends up betraying Julia in Room 101 after O'Brien threatens to have ferocious rats eat his face. Winston begs for O'Brien to hurt Julia instead of making him suffer by saying,
Do it to Julia! Do it to Julia! Not me! Julia! I don’t care what you do to her. Tear her face off, strip her to the bones. Not me! Julia! Not me! (Orwell, 362).
