You have been stranded on a deserted island and in order to survive you have been given the labels from THREE different foods, but you are only allowed to have ONE of them. Which one would help you survive longest?
You can only pick ONE and since I made this island up there are NO animals to hunt, or berries to pick.
Sugar, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (may contain one of more of the following oils: coconut, cottonseed, palm kernel, canola or soybean), corn syrup, sodium caseinate (a milk derivative), natural and artificial flavors, dipotassium phosphate, mono and diglycerides, salt.
Fish, sufficient water for processing, shrimp, guar gum, steamed bone meal, titanium dioxide, potassium chloride, salt, iron oxide (vitamins E, A, D3, B-12), thiamin monooxitrate (vitamin B1), ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, magnesium sulfate, copper sulfate, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B-6), natural flavor, niacin, calcium, pantothenate, riboflavin, supplement (vitamin B-2), cobalt carbonate, menadione sodium bisulfate complex (source of vitamin K activity), folic acid, potassium iodide and biotin.
Sugar, corn syrup, food starch-modified, apple juice from concentrate, less than 1.5% citric acid, confectioner's glaze, artificial and natural flavors, gum acacia, coloring (includes yellow 5, red 40, yellow 6, blue 1).
WHY did you pick the food you chose?
Write at LEAST a paragraph about why you picked the food you did.
The first thing you should do on a desert island is find a source of water because no matter what food groups you have, water is the life saver. In the event that there are no natural supplies of water, no time should be wasted and leaves (if you have no utensils) need to be gathered in such a way that they will collect water if it rains or the atmosphere is damp.
Once that is done, the food choices should be considered.
#1 contains sugar which is a carbohydrate and also trans fats and a human should not consume even trace amounts of trans fats if possible. Hydrogenated is the word that indicates this. Hydrogenated vegetable oils are banned in some countries.
#2 is a protein and performs
many essential functions ... in cells.
Guar gum extends the shelf life of products and is present in gluten-free products.Titanium dioxide is an emulsifier or thickener and a natural sunscreen provided amounts are small; there are several essential vitamins and minerals present. However, it does contain an ingredient found in pet food - menadione sodium bisulfate complex. Steamed bone meal is also present in pet food.
#3 has refined sugars or carbohydrates and tartrazine (yellow no 5). It would give you a sugar rush and is problematic because the sugar low will follow.
It seems therefore that unfortunately the pet food may be the best choice!
