Imagine that you are on a presidential commission looking into establishing a new executive department. Decide on an important issue facing today. Think of a new executive department to deal with this issue.
A Reform Department: I wouldn't mind seeing an investigative committee tasked with the job of enforcing ethical standards in Washington politics. The line between business and government has become rather blurry - maybe it has been that way for a long time - and confidence in the loyalty of the US government to a sense of duty and fealty to the public is on the wane.
Maybe a reform department could help either exhonerate the current ongoings as being perfectly legal and ethical or help to shape things up.
Do we really need more new departments? I do not think that I would want us to make any. If I had to choose one, though, I would choose a department of technology and research or something like that. This would help to ensure that important research got funded so that we could continue to be innovative and help our economy grow.
