What should I add to this statement about illegal immigration from Mexico to the US?
After this : " Legal immigrants have been welcomed to the United States for centuries. At the same time a high rate of illegal immigration from Mexico has been tolerated for many years. After the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 however, the number and countries of origin for illegal immigrants coming to America from Mexico has raised concern for the national security and the safety of the citizens. "
I don't know what else to say. (I have to do a small presentation in front of my class. Nothing big, the teacher just want us to introduce it. What can I say ?)

There are any number of things you can add, depending on where you want to go with this.
For example, you seem to imply that it was the 9/11 attacks that started the concern about illegal immigration and that the concern is due to worries about security. You could talk a little bit more about why this should be a security concern. You could talk about how terrorists could easily come in from Mexico and pose a danger to us.
On the other hand, you might want to talk about how things other than safety concerns are driving this issue. You might want to talk about the role that the economy plays in people's concerns. Or you might want to talk about how people think that all these new immigrants will not become American and that America will lose its culture.
