if you had to pretend to be Katrina Van Tassel and you know Brom Bones and Ichabod Crane were both fond of you, how would you write a letter telling them why you do OR do not like them?

Writing letters to these men would be quite easy.  They are, in many ways, the exact opposite of one another.  What Katrina likes about one, she would dislike about the other.

For example, Brom is a large and strong man.  He has a good sense of humor, is great with horses, and is generally a good person. He is a a "mans-man".

Icabod Crane, on the other hand, is a slight man. He is tall and thin, clumsy, and well-educated.  He is also more interested in Katrina's family, particularly their wealth, than he is in her.  This speaks about his personality.

Katrina preferred Brom over Icabond.  So, using the details about each of the characters, you can write friendly letters to each detailing what it is you like about them.

I'm assuming this is a writing assignment for your class.

The first thing that you should do is to come up with some evidence for both sides. What is good about both Brom Bones and Ichabod Crane? What is bad about Brom Bones and Ichabod Crane?

What you teacher is looking for is whether or not you can compare and contrast the two characters and make a value judgement based on what you find important personally.

So, consider the good and the bad of each, and then determine what is important to you. Try to use direct evidence from the text for a better answer. You can use the link below to give you more information about the characters.

I would think about the type of woman that Katrina is and try to write the letters in HER voice and put myself in HER shoes.  She was flirtatious and led Ichabod on, honestly, so I would think her letter to Ichabod about not liking him would not be extremely straightforward and she might "beat around the bush" a bit because she loves attention from men and might not really want Ichabod to go away if only because he showers her with attention.
