How do I write a conclusion for a thesis?

Thanks

I have nearly finished my thesis, but am left with the conclusion which I am facing some difficulty in writing. I have put it here once it is about sense and self-restraint in (P&P, S&S, and Emma". My question shall I take each novel aside and write about it, again or I write about Jane Austen's writing in general. Besides, I can hardly find critics who wrote about these two virtues.

As your question refers to three different novels, I will leave this question in the Literature Group. Very interesting topic for your essay by the way. You might want to consider general principles for writing a conclusion to help you think through how to structure and write it:

1) A conclusion should briefly return to the major points that you have established in the main body of your essay, but round the essay off, adding some kind of final summary or your opinion.

2) A conclusion should NOT be a simple re-statement of what you have already written - try and add an interesting fact or a statement or opinion to give it a final "punch".

3) A conclusion MUST NOT contain any new material that refers to your topic. All such material must be in the main body of the essay. You are just "concluding" (hence the name) your essay.

Bearing these points in mind, you might want to think about what overall trends there are in these Austen novels. Overall, in her presentation of sense and self-restraint does she seem to favour one over the other in her writing? This should definitely be referred to. You might also want to think about adding a biographical fact or your own personal opinion in your conclusion to round it off - do you agree with Austen's approach or her thinking on these two qualities? Did she lead her life favouring one or the other?

If you want more information on these novels I have added links to enotes criticism below.

Hopefully this will give you some ideas to write a good conclusion. Good luck!
