Write a parable that, while using a narrative form, has a moral or maxim embedded within it.
While the actual writing of this parable must be the student's, there are suggestions that can be made. First of all, have you not heard an older relative quote a maxim after something occurred in yours or a family member's daily life? If you have, then reconstruct the incidents that happened, creating a short narrative that illustrates this maxim.
One old maxim is that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. This means that if a person has the opportunity to possess something, he/she should not take chances on gaining more, but go ahead and take what is certain. With this maxim, you can easily construct a narrative that illustrates its meaning. Perhaps you could write about a person at an auction who has an opportunity to have a small lot on a lake. But, he/she learns that larger ones are going up for bid later in the day, so he/she does not bid on the small lot that is available. Instead, this person waits only to learn that a land developer has bought up all the available lots. So, now there is nothing to be purchased.
Try to locate different maxims. You will think of something that you can use. There is a site listed here for you.
