A number decreased by 30 is n-30

The same as is ='s.

14 minus 3 times the number is 14-3n

So putting this together we get

n-30=14-3n

Write the equation for the following:  A number decreased by 30 is the same as 14 minus 3 times the number.  Then solve.

number = x

x - 30 = 14 - 3x

now move the like terms to the same side:

x + 3x = 14 + 30

4x = 44

divide by 4
x =11

Let the no. be n.

No. decreased by 30= n-30

14 minus 3 times no.= 14-3n

If we solve it, we get:

n-30=14-3n

n+3n= 14+30

4n= 44

n= 44/4

n=11
