Would this be a good thesis for an argumentative essay? My topic is high schools providing day care on campuses and I'm for it.

As the percentage of teenage pregnancies continue to arise and teen mothers are struggling to finish school and raise there child in a tough economy, high schools all over the country are opening up beneficial day care centers on campus. People argue that opening up a day care center on campus encourages teen pregnancies but I believe that what the high schools are doing is oppening up an oppurtunity for a better future.

The opening statement seems a good beginning to an essay (after a bit of editing for grammar). The main  points you will need to consider are:

Who is your audience?
What sort of factual evidence is there to support your contention?
Can you cite evidence to disprove the potential objection?

In order to do this you might want to find some specific examples of schools with similar student populations, some of which have daycare and some of which don’t and compare things like pregnancy rates and graduation rates for female students.

Personally, I think daycare sounds as if it would encourage pregnant students to finish school, but one of the keys to making a good argument is finding actual evidence rather than just stating opinions.
