Words describing Hamlet!
I have to do this Bio Poem Thingy with words or sayings that basically describe what Hamlet is going through. Okay, it goes like this ..
I Am ...
I Wish ...
I Need ...
I Hear ...
I Want ...
I Feel ...
I See ...
I Wonder ...
And we have to do TWO of them, The FIRST with the beginning of the play and how Hamlet reacted, and the second with the ending of the book and how he changed. WE DO NOT HAVE TO USE JUST ONE WORD.
I hope the following attempt will help.
My name is Hamlet, prince of Denmark, rightful heir to the throne and:
I am deeply distressed about my father's death and am in mourning.
I wish my mother and uncle had not wed so soon after my father's passing.
I need them to know my sorrow and pain, to know how much I am aching.
I hear from Horatio that he had seen my father's ghost.
I want to know what message it desperately needs to post.
I feel angry about its tale that my uncle had murdered my parent.
I see I have to avenge my father's death: a heavy, cursed event
I wonder how I am going to do it without having any resentment.
I am going to act as if I'd lost my mind
I wish my act will make everyone blind
I need to repay Claudius and mother in kind
I hear a troupe has come to act at the castle
I want to use them to set up Claudius, the rascal
I feel confident that my plan will succeed
I see only triumph if I turn word into deed
I wonder if Claudius' my dastardly plot will heed.
OK, here goes:
I Am ... a prince
I Wish ... my father had not died
I Need ... to know who killed him
I Hear ... there is a ghost appearing on the ramparts
I Want ... to avenge his death
I Feel ... cheated, unloved
I See ... an apparition
I Wonder... if it's my father's ghost
I Am ... convinced of my Uncle's guilt
I Wish ... my mother hadn't married him
I Need ... an opportunity to avenge
I Hear ... my uncle praying
I Want ... to kill him now
I Feel ... he will go to heaven
I See ... an opportunity later
I Wonder...if angels will carry me to Heaven
This follows the character's thoughts as the play progressed. What this assignment does is force the student to condense the plot and the character of Hamlet into manageable parts. It is a very complex play, but one meticulous structured. This assignment strips away tI know this doesn't rhyme or scan, but I tried to give the essence of he secondary characters and allows the student to see the skeleton of the play. Note how Hamlet's doubts and inaction are justified by this outline. Good luck with the poet-izing condensation and word magic!
