The relationship of P (pressure) with V (volume) and T (temperature) can be summarized as follows:

   

P = k (T/V )

 

In solving the unknown pressure  we can arrange this proportionality equation to 

P1V1/ T1 = P2V2/ T2

By substituting the given values from the problem, we will have:

V1 = 500ft^3

V2 = 300ft^3

T1 = 300K

T2 = 360K

P1 = 10 lb/ft^2

P2 = ?

 

(500ft^3)(10 lb/ft^2)/(300K) = (300ft^3)(P2)/ (360K)

We can now solve for P2.

 

P2 = 20 lb/ft^2
