Marketing is important in today's economy because marketing is the way in which firms find customers.  Firms must use marketing as a way to determine what goods they should make, how they should try to sell them, and to whom they should try to sell them.  Marketing involves developing a product, deciding on the price at which to sell it, deciding where (through what outlets) to sell it, and deciding how to promote it to potential customers.  In a sense, all of business is marketing.   This is why marketing is important.  It is connected to every aspect of what a business must do in order to survive.
