When I want my car fixed, I go to a mechanic.  When I need a root canal, I go to the dentist.  Nutritionists are not only the professionals in this area, with training and education in the field, but most Americans and humans in general know relatively little about how their bodies function and what a balanced and nutritious diet is.  Consulting with the professional is therefore more efficient and in the long run, healthy.

I would say that referencing a nutrition professional is extremely important because modification of one's diet and food intake is a very delicate process.  There might be a tendency to err on one extreme over another and this could be averted with an outside resource who is qualified to offer guidance and insight as to what is a healthy modification or unhealthy path being taken.  The reality is that when one seeks to lose weight or make changes into their food consumption lifestyle, they are changing patterns of behavior and the exact reaction of the body is unknown.  To this end, being able to seek the advice of a nutrition professional could help to avert some of these unforeseen elements.

A person could seek either a dietitian or nutritionist if they need advice regarding their diets and lifestyles.

These kinds of professionals advise meal preparations, develop nutrition plans, and teach people how to eat a balanced a nutritious diet. They are licensed, educated professionals who work in many places such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, or may even have a private practice.

Some people that may need to seek advise from this kind of professional are people who are diabetic, people with high blood pressure, people who need to lose weight, or people who generally want to know how to eat better and prepare better foods. They may work closely with doctors in order to promote healthy living.

For seeking any advice on any important matter it is better to consult a professional for advice for the simple reason that the professional knows better and therefor can give better advice.

Only argument for not consulting a professional is the cost and trouble of consulting one. So if you are asking general advice on what kind of food is more nutritious for your daily diet, you need not consult a nutrition professional, but you are recovering from some major health problem, or you are undergoing rigorous training for boxing championship, then it is worthwhile to invest that effort and money in consulting a professional.

Your question has rendered half of the answer.

Nutrition is a must for your well-being. And, guiding properly regarding this matter can be done only by a nutritionist.

A nutritionist will give you certain guidelines on the basis of which you have to lead your life; if necessary they'll bind you within some rules. Thus, you will stay fine. A nutrition professional does have the expertise in dealing with the health and hygienic issues. And, as far as it is matter of health, it is wise to take suggestion or advice from an expert. Isn't it?
