Why don't Sam's parents come and look for him when he is gone?

An illustration of the letter 'A' in a speech bubbles

Sam's parents don't come look for him when he is gone, because they know that he is going out to live in the woods. Sam is one of eleven kids who values his privacy. Its hard to be private in a family of that many kids. His parents decided that Sam would be happier living for a year in the woods, and allow him to do so. They also respect that he is trying to avoid human contact.
