Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl tracks the time when Anne Frank and her family went into hiding to escape persecution as Jews. Pim is the "pet" name for Anne's father whom Anne loves dearly, unlike her mother and sister with whom she cannot bond as their "personalities are so alien to me."(Sunday September 27 1942)
Anne's diary note of Sunday 27 October 1943, more than a year after they first entered the Secret Annex, reveals the stress of living in close proximity to each other and the squabbles that develop. Anne tries to busy herself with studying, her mother complains of headaches and some people cannot sleep and Anne's father, hopeful of not being asked to involve himself in other people's disputes "walks around with his lips pressed together."
