Why does Mrs. Antolini not want Holden to look at her when she enters the room with the coffee and cake?

Holden arrives at the Antolinis in the middle of the night.  Mrs. Antolini doesn't want Holden to look at her because "she just arose from the sack".  Her hair "was full of those iron curler jobs, and she didn't have any lipstick or anything on".  Holden notes that "she didn't look too gorgeous" (Chapter 24).
