Esperanza isn't all too impressed with Darius.  She thinks he's a wimpy guy who tries to act tough.  One day, however, the kids are looking up at the sky and at the clouds.  Darius, who usually doesn't have the most profound or positive things to say, looks up at one of the clouds and calls it God.  Esperanza is impressed that someone as goofy and "tough" as Darius would dare to say something so seemingly sensitive and insightful.  She is also impressed because clouds and the sky are things that Esperanza says there aren't enough of, along with flowers and butterflies.
