What Little Bear tells Omri is that the horse will be really afraid if Ormi touches it.  He says "You touch, much fear."

So instead, Omri finds a box that a Matchbox "lorry" (a British English word meaning "truck" in American English) came in.  He has Little Bear ride the horse in.  Then he gently picks the box up.
