Why did the writer choose the piano instrument and not, for example, the guitar or any other music tool?

An illustration of the letter 'A' in a speech bubbles

This is a guess on my part, but a carving of a family story could not be accomplished in most musical instruments because there simply would not be enough space.  The other idea that comes to my mind is that the Wilson needed an object that had significant monetary value because of the plot.  The piano certainly filled that need as a guitar or a flute, for example, would not have. Also, the title of the play, which is about the lesson that the piano taught, as opposed to taking piano lessons to learn to play the piano, is more appealing because, I would guess, there are far more people who have taken piano lessons than there are who have taken lessons on other musical instruments.
