The signing of the Declaration of Independence is important to the history of the world for a few reasons. One reason is that the document lays out some very basic ideas about the rights of people and what government should be doing with those rights. The Declaration of Independence said that all people have certain rights. They are the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These rights can’t be taken away or given up. The job of government is to protect these rights. When government fails to protect the rights of the people, the people must change the government.
Another reason why the Declaration of Independence is important is because it has been used as a model in other people’s fight for freedom. When Americans in Texas declared independence from Mexico, they created a Texan Declaration of Independence that is very similar to ours. When the French people revolted, they also used ideas from our document in their quest for a new government. Many countries that have become independent have used the ideas in our Declaration of Independence in their own Declarations of Independence. This was true in India, in Latin American countries, and in Israel. Therefore, this was a very important document in world history.
