An illustration of the letter 'A' in a speech bubbles

In "October Skies," a small group of boys decided to build and launch their own rocket.  With encouragement from their teacher they began the task with a lot of enthusiasm.  However, when designing the first rocket for launch and in the process of their calculations the boys made a simple mathematical error.  Homer Hickham reviews goes over the results he realizes their mistake.  They did not factor in the direction or speed of the wind that day.  When they realized this they recalculated the trajectory with the wind direction and the wind speed in mind.  They were able to locate the first rocket and that let them move on to try again and become more successful.
