Xi Jinpin is currently the 6th ranked member of the Politburo Standing Committee, China's de facto top power organ, and is poised to become China's top leader starting with his rise to the top of the Politburo Standing Committe in the Fall of 2012, and then the Presidency and Premiership in 2013.

One notable fact about Xi Jinping is that when he was a boy, his father was purged from the Communist party during the Cultural Revolution. Shortly thereafter, he was sent to work on a farm, living as a peasant under Mao's "Down to the Countryside" program.

He is married to a famous Chinese folk singer Peng Liyuan, who is his second wife. Their daughter is a student at Harvard University.

Xi Jinpin is projected to be the next President of China.  He is meeting with President Obama and Governor Romney during his current US tour.  As the leader of what is surely that world's next superpower, he is a man to get to know for sure.

I can see why you are asking about Xi Jinping. He is making the headline in America in view of his visit to Washington and believe or not Iowa.

He was born on June 1 1953 and he is part of the communist party in China. He is one of the top ranking members of the People's Republic of China. He is the country's Vice President and the Vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission.

What makes him important though is more than what he is doing now. He is next in line to the president of China. As you know China is a rising power and they are set to continue to grow in influence in the foreseeable future. In light of this, he will be one of the most powerful men in the world, next to the president of the United States.
