Jeffrey Patrick “Jeff” Kinney is the author of the fictional book series Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The book series follows the adventures of the main character Greg Heffley as written in the character’s journals. The author originally aspired to be a newspaper cartoonist. The writer ran a comic strip known as “Igdoof” in the campus newspaper while attending the University of Maryland. However, when things failed to go as planned with the cartoon strip, Jeff developed the idea of the book in 1998. Six years later he published the book on Funbrain.com. Two years after publishing his work online, he shared it with a publisher in New York and turned the book into a series.

The book was first published in 2007 and has since won a number of accolades. The book series attracted movie makers who have so far developed three movies based on the book.

Currently, the author owns a bookstore in Massachusetts and works as a game designer.
