I like Elvis as the last American King, of course you could also make an argument for Richard Petty as a former King, and in some circles he might still be considered the King!

Interesting answers.  On the mainland of North America, I suppose George III was an "American" king, which would mean the last was Louis XVI of France, who still ruled Louisiana until he was deposed in the French Revolution.  If South America is included that would be Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil to 1891.  Or Queen Elizabeth II of the UK, since Belize did not become independent until 1966.  Or Queen Beatrice of the...

¿Who was the last American king? I think that we have to include the USA’s Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, because everybody born in Puerto Rico is an American citizen by birth. It has been so since 1917. Well, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico had one Supreme Cacique (king): Agüeybana in the late 1480’s and the early 1500’s. The Spaniards killed him; Agüeybana the Supreme Cacique of Puerto Rico, but he had children. The father of Agüeybana had been captured in Puerto Rico and taken to Spain in 1493. Caguax (the father of Agüeybana) escaped from Spain as a stowaway ship which landed him in Greece. In Greece, Caguax started a new family, the Livanos family. (Livanos means something like wise, or wisdom, or old-wise person.) During the 1810’s a Livanos descendant traveled back Puerto Rico and when he found a girl who was a descendant of Supreme Cacique Agüeybana, he married her. They moved back to Greece. In Greece, the Livanos family became very wealthy as ship owners. A member of the Livanos family, Athina Livanos, married Aristotles Socrates Onassis, who was a Greek ship owner too and who latter married Jacquelyn Kennedy, the American queen. What all these means is that the granddaughter of Onassis and Kennedy, whose name is Athina Onassis is still a living American queen. She might think herself to be Greek, but her tights to Puerto Rico make her an American and a royal.
