The detective from Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days is detective Fix. He is a tough character to nail down. On one hand, readers are meant to really dislike this guy. He's the character that is attempting to stop Fogg from completing his around the world mission. On the other hand, readers end up kind of admiring the detective. He's unceasing in his efforts. He pursues Fogg with a dogged determination that has to be praised. The reason that he is chasing Fogg in the first place is that Fogg left on his around the world mission right after a major bank was robbed in England. Detective Fix believes that Fogg is the bank robber and is using the around the world tour as a ruse to escape capture.
