I don't know that I've ever heard anyone ask this question before...  why do you care?

Anyway, it would appear that the captain of the Mayflower was one Christopher Jones.

Christopher Jones was born in England in 1571.  His father owned a ship which he bequeathed to his son when he (the father, obviously) died.

In 1609, Jones came to be captain and part owner (he owned a quarter interest in the ship) of the Mayflower.  He sailed the ship to Plymouth (while aiming for Virginia), came home, and died in March 1622, about a year after he returned.

And now I know something I didn't know before, but it turned out that my seven-year-old knew.  I guess I should have just asked her.
