Who really is the best golfer??? Who is the best golfer?  Well if i do say so myself, i believe that Rory Mcilroy is the best this year. Not only is he number one in the world, he has also won more tournaments than Tiger Woods this year! (not to mention the RYDER CUP!!)

I have to agree with Post #3. I grew up in the 'Sixties, and Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus dominated a strong professional field that included Sam Snead and Gary Player. Arnie's Army has yet to be duplicated, even during Tiger's most popular days.

Over the last two years, Rory McIlroy has been the best golfer in the world, at least in terms of success in major tournaments. On the other hand, Luke Donald has spent almost as much of that period atop the World Golf Rankings. Then, of course, there is Tiger, who has undisputedly been the best player in the world over the last 15 years. His recent form after his personal issues should not obscure his achievements. What remains to be seen is whether he will return to form. In any case, an issue that is perhaps of broader significance will be the lasting effects Tiger has had on the game. Will fans drawn to the game by his celebrity stick around if he continues to struggle?

Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas were the best golfers ever.  Arnold Palmer was good before they had all the fany technology we do now.  Now that's talent!  Of course, Tiger woods was good.

While I do not follow golf, I would have to say the defining factor to defining the "best golfer" is the media. Given that I am only aware of a few names in the professional golfing world, my suggestion would be that Tiger Woods is the best golfer.

While this may not be true, based upon titles and wins, as a person who does not follow the sport, Woods' name is the only one I can recall. What this says it that the media can define one person's idea of who is the best based upon the amount of time the person spends in the limelight.

Therefore, while I may be wrong, it does show that media can influence how a person defines one thing or another.
