Although there are many people in history who have been named Michael Jackson, the most famous person of that name was a very famous American pop singer.  He was born in 1958 and died in 2009.

Musically speaking, Jackson is most famous for his 1982 album Thriller.  The album remains the best-selling album of all time.  For this and other solo albums, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  He is, however, the only person to have been inducted into that Hall of Fame twice.  He was also inducted as a member of the Jackson 5.  This was a group that was made up of Jackson and four of his brothers.  In 1969 and 1970, their first album on the Motown label had its first four singles go to number one on the Billboard charts.

Jackson was also known for personal problems.  He was abused by his father as a boy.  As an adult, he acted in bizarre and reclusive ways.  He was once accused of child sexual abuse.  He eventually died of overdoses of prescription drugs and his doctor was sentenced to jail for manslaughter.
