Merzbow, or Masami Akita, is a former musician who grew tired of his drums and decided to try something new, such as "tapping the floor or rattling the chairs." His form of audio poetry is compared to Dadaism and Surrealism because Merzbow has a continually changing fascination with new objects and juxtaposed sounds. Having collaborated recently with Hungarian drummer Balazs Pandi and Swedish saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, Merzbow has a new production:
An orgy of atonality and the unexpected, issuing label RareNoise has described this project as the 'sound of shock and awe' and a 'sonic assault of epic proportions'
Merzbow makes "sound art spaces" in which sounds meet each other and create something he feels is unique and beautiful. Having studied art, he creates at times ambient music, or sounds that create atmosphere and tone. He has also been known to introduce into his synthesized sounds, rhythm and melody to a certain degree. Interestingly, some of Merzbow's creative noise efforts have been used as backdrops for films.
