WHO WAS INVOLVED IN THE ETHNIC CLEANSING THAT TOOK PLACE IN BOSNIA DURING THE CIVIL WAR THERE? 4 WEDNSDAY
There are almost no clean hands on the various sides of Yugoslavia's civil war, with charges of torture, imprisonment and genocide common to Bosnians, Serbs and Croatians. Serbs being the primary aggressors, it is safe to argue they are responsible for some of the worst war crimes.
As far as individuals involved directly in the ethnic cleansing campaigns in Bosnia, Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic sent direct and indirect military support for Radovan Karadzic in Bosnia to do his dirty work. Ratko Mladic also had blood on his hands in those years. There are trials ongoing to bring some of these criminals to justice, and Milosevic died in prison during his trial proceedings.
Essentially what was going on in this ethnic cleansing is that pretty much every ethnic group in Bosnia was trying to force the members of the other groups out of their enclaves. So everyone was ethnically cleansing everyone else.
Perhaps the main culprits were the Serbs who were trying to get the Croats and the Bosniaks (Muslim Bosnians) out of the Serbian areas. At the same time, the Croats were trying to cleanse their areas of Serbs and Bosniaks. There was also some infighting among the Bosniaks.
This all happened in the time between 1991 and 1995.
