Who is Gennady Timchenko?I keep reading that he just purchased the St. Petersburg hockey team, and also that he's head of Gunvor. Is that the same person? Sports and business; not bad!

Gennady Timchenko of Gunvor is a Finnish Energy trader known for his discrete public image (he rarely grants interviews) and his business ventures with Gunvor, Novatek, and others. The Economist ran a corrected article in which Gennady Timchenko was alleged to have ties to politicians. Media states that in addition to Gunvor and other companies, Gennady Timchenko is also president of Russia's SKA hockey team and participates in regattas with Russia's team Katusha.

Gennady Timchenko is also reportedly involved with running Sibur in addition to his responsibilities at Gunvor, according to news sources. Gunvor's profits also appear to be rising despite the changes in Russia's political landscape and turmoil in the Middle East. Gennady Timchenko lives in Geneva.

Gennady Timchenko is co-founder, along with Torbjorn Tornqvist, of Gunvor - an energy trading company. Gennady Timchenko has a reputation for being discreet, and also engages often in philanthropy via his Neva Foundation, and his current heading of St. Petersburg's hockey team SKA (an abbreviation for Sports (K)Club of the Army), a professional Russian ice hockey club that competes in the Kontinental Hockey League.
