I could not find a poem called "Christians or Jews" anywhere on the web. I do think Arab poetry would be difficult to understand if you did not speak Arabic or understand the culture. Poetry tends to be tightly connected to culture, and it helps to understand the culture the poem came from. As the above post suggests, this does not necessarily mean you cannot appreciate and enjoy another culture's poetry.

The most famous Arab poets I know of are Khalil Gebran, Nizar Qabbany, Mahmoud Darwish. Most Arabic poems are very beautiful, deep and meanigful texts when read in their original language, however, when they are translates (say to English), they loose their depth and sometimes don't make sense. A lot of Arabic poetry make cultural references and these need to be understood for the full meaning of the poem to be brought forward.
