Who is Anne Hathaway? (Not the modern actress.)
Why, Anne Hathaway was the wife of the greatest writer who ever lived: William Shakespeare. Anne (1556-1623) outlived The Bard by seven years following his death in 1616. Very little is known about her (much like Shakespeare himself), but she was apparently born in the village of Shottery, near Stratford-upon-Avon. Anne was eight years older than her husband, and it is believed she was pregnant with Will's child at the time of her wedding. She bore him three children--Susanna (1583) and twins Hamnet and Judith (1585). She lived apart from Shakespeare for much of their life; Anne resided in Stratford, while Will lived primarily in London. Shakespeare's Sonnet #145 includes a line about his wife, jokingly referred to as "hate away."
Anne Hathaway was married to William Shakespeare. She was about eight years older than Shakespeare. He left her and his three children and moved to London, England.
It is thought that she became pregnant before they were married. This was a scandal during this time period. It is believed that the pregnancy caused a quick marriage between the two of them.
There is not a lot known about Anne Hathaway but pieces of information have been gathered and many conclusions have been drawn.
