Adolf Hitler was the leader of Nazi Germany from 1933 until his death in 1945. He was responsible for getting Germany into World War II. He was also responsible for the killing of millions of Jews, along with other victims, in prison camps in WWII. The killing of the Jews is known as the Holocaust.
Adolf Hitler was born in Austria in 1889. He was ethnically German as many in Austria are and were. After a youth in which he did not find any real career to pursue, Hitler served in the German army in World War I. He was decorated for his actions in the war.
After the war, Hitler became a member of the Nazi Party, which was a radical nationalist party. He soon came to lead the party. His own personal nationalist and anti-Semitic ideas became a major basis of the party’s platform. Hitler became the Chancellor of Germany in 1933. This is a post similar to that of a prime minister. From there, he took more and more power to himself and to the Nazi Party.
Hitler’s aggressive actions brought about the beginning of WWII. He led Germany throughout the war and committed suicide on April 30, 1945 as Soviet troops were nearing his bunker in Berlin. Hitler is generally seen as one of the most evil major figures in the history of the world.
