Which novel/Play is more effective in portraying the setting, main character and conflict? The kite runner or Life of Pi?
Im writing an essay and we have to compare which is more effective and powerful. It doesnt have to be one novel is more effective in all three sections. Would you give me a point or two in each of them.
ps. I loved both the book :) I can't stop reading A Thousand Splendid Suns 8D
I think "more effective" is completely relative here. Both of these novels do an excellent job of effectively presenting each of these elements.
Both contain very strong and specific elements of setting and its affect on tone. When you focus on this, I'd definitely include the author's use of imagery to show how the setting affects the story.
As for conflict, arguments could be made for both novels that there is an under-riding internal conflict that is compounded by man-vs-man (in Kite Runner) or man-vs-nature (in Pi).
Main character? Which one did you have the strongest feelings about (could be positive or negative). Strong feelings one way or another are going to give you a stronger argument.
In the end, the question is not so much, which novel did these things more effectively, but which one can you prove the most effectively.
Personally, I'd choose the novel you enjoyed the most. It will be the easiest to recall details from, you will enjoy analyzing and writing about it better, and because of these things, you will end up writing a better paper.
