There are a number of negative results of scientific knowledge and modernization. One of the first ones I think about is the destructive power that we have amassed. Scientific knowledge has allowed the development and manufacturing of nuclear bombs that can wipe out humanity in an instant, biological and chemical weapons that can kill people extremely painfully, etc. We have already seen examples of such destructive power in the nuclear bombing of the cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II. The worst part is that we are not even satisfied with the destructive power we hold and we keep on improving and modernizing it using scientific knowledge. We started out with uranium-based weapons, and now other radioactive materials (such as plutonium) are also being used. Earlier, we could only use airplanes to drop these weapons, now we have missiles and ocean-based (from a submarine or ship) capabilities as well.

Hope this helps.
