I think that one of the most basic factors that threatens world peace is the presence of fundamentalism in any form.  The tenet of fundamentalist that challenges the hope of world peace is the idea that it believes in its own certainty without any element of negotiation or modification.  As the world is embracing globalization and with it, a penchant for liberalization in both economics and politics, fundamentalism flies in the face of both trends.  The threat of fundamentalism is one that sees itself as superior to any other form of thought.  In this singularity and relentless pursuit of its own absolutism, fundamentalism becomes the basic threat to world peace.  If we consider that world peace requires a level of compromise and a level of agreement between those who are different, this becomes a thorn in the side of fundamentalism.  Fundamentalism in all of its forms such as religious fundamentalism, political fundamentalism, social fundamentalism, and even economic fundamentalism, are threats the cooperation and mutual agreement that is found in world peace. Its strict and uncompromising nature is what makes world peace a challenge, if not impossible, to attain.
