I can't help you with which specific places are being referred to. That depends on the context of your question. However, television depiction of any place usually focuses on landmarks and distinct geographical features. If you film New York City, you will likely show the Statue of Liberty, rivers and high rises. If you film Italy, you will show the Roman Colosseum.

I agree with the previous post. Usually the media presents places such as Mexico as being a tropical getaway with beautiful blue water and gorgeous trees. In reality, these places are usually not like that. It is only the tourist areas that are.  If you travel deeper into some of these countries (and I have) you will see people living in substandard living conditions.

I’m not exactly sure what you need, but let’s look at someplace like Mexico. Unless one has ever traveled to this country, the image most people probably have of the country is one of beautiful sandy beaches and crystal blue water. This is how Mexico is frequently represented on television shows, commercials, and even in the print media. Rarely in common television programming are the poor, slum sections of Mexico show. To get the real picture, one must travel to the country to see the reality and not a glammed out version of it.
