In chapter two of "The Great Gatsby," Nick is on the train with Tom when they are stopped to let the bridge let barges through.  As they are waiting by the "pile of ashes" Tom hops up and grabs Nick, telling him that he wants Nick to meet "his girl."

Tom introduces Nick to George Wilson who immediately wants to know when Tom is going to sell him "that car."  Tom tells George next week.  Myrtle appears and orders George to go get some chairs.  While he is gone Tom tells Myrtle to get on the next train to New York and meet him at the "newsstand."

After Myrtle meets them in New York and they get to Tom's city apartment Myrtle calls the McKees and her sister.  It is then that Tom introduces Nick to the McKees.

Tom takes Nick on a visit to New York. On the way, he stops for gas at Tom and Myrtle's garage. He introduces Nick to them and then picks up Myrtle. the three of them go to a hotel where Tom then introduces Nick to the McKees who live in the hotel.
