Which mountain is called the Blue Mountain?
The Blue Mountains are a well known mountainous region located in Jamaica. This range is the largest range of mountains in Jamaica. The Blue Mountain Peak is about 7500 feet above sea level. The mountain is hike able and once a person reaches the summit they can view the North coast as well as the south coast of the island. If the weather is cooperating and the visibility is clear one can also see the outline of the coast of Cuba. This mountain range is not only the largest range on the island; it is also the longest mountain range in the Caribbean. They are located on the Eastern part of the island and the parishes of St. Thomas and Portland border the foothills of the mountains. They are well known for the cultivation of coffee as well as over 500 different species of plants with beautiful flowers. The mountains are also the home of the largest swallowtail butterfly as, well as a variety of birds and animals.
It's interesting that there must be two "Blue Mountanins" in the world. There is also the Blue Mountains in Australia. The mountains are just outside of Sydney, New South Wales. They are called the Blue Mountains because the Eucalyptus has vapors that when hit by the light of sun make the mountain appear to be blue.
