In the film adaptation of the Manchurian Candidate, where was the squad taken after they were abducted? How is that different from the novel?

In the 1962 film starring Frank Sinatra and Angela Lansbury, the unit is taken to Manchuria as in the book. The 2004 film, however, is set during and after the Gulf War and although the location of the compound that the unit is taken to is never explicitly mentioned Shaw is taken there at the end. I would guess that it would be somewhere in Saudi Arabia, possibly Jeddah.
